The city of Hagerstown is the county seat of the Washington County in the US state of Maryland. The city was founded in 1762 and was incorporated in 1813. Hagerstown History

The city of Hagerstown was founded in 1739 by a German immigrant known as Jonathan Hager. The town was initially named as Elizabethtown in the memory of his wife but the name was changed in 1813 by the city council based on a popular vote. The city started off as a small town and soon came to become one of the most important industrial centers in the region. Railroad and Aviation History: The city soon came to be known as the Hub City as it quickly became a center of activity for the region. A number of railroads were built through the city over time as it became the center for the Western Maryland Railway. The city connects many major cities even today and it also has a museum dedicated to the history of railways that it has. Besides that aviation was also an important activity that the city was part of. In the Second World War, the city was an important center for manufacturing as the largest employer in the city was an aircraft manufacturing company. The company known as Fairchild Aircraft was operational in the city till 1984 before operations was moved elsewhere.
