Tampa Communities

Communities in Tampa share four main languages - English, Spanish, French and Italian. More than 75% of the population speaks English natively. Spanish comes next with more than 17% of the population speaking this language and more than a quarter of the population having a Hispanic surname. All this combined with the presence of a transient population means community life in Tampa is dynamic and liberal.

A study by UCLA in 2006 indicated that the number of members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuals and Transsexuals community in the city was significantly higher than in other cities.

The local community provides for the special needs of its different members irrespective of their ethnicity or sexual preferences. Community life focuses on religion, social work and charity through various institutions and organizations working in this field.
