Oklahoma City Schools
There are many different types of schools in Oklahoma City. Schools are assigned by district and most public schools are in the neighborhoods close to where the children reside. However, over the past several years many of the smaller rural schools have been consolidated into nearby larger schools thus eliminating the very small schools which had a very small student population. These students are provided transportation to neighboring school districts.
There are 603 public school districts, 18 charter schools and 34 private schools in Oklahoma. There are also 13 specialty schools throughout the state. Two of these schools are alternative schools and three are for students with special needs. Three are schools that deal with some sort of mathematics or science and tow are military schools. The schools across Oklahoma are varied and this helps meet Oklahoma student's educational needs on their ability level. Home schooling is also looked on favorably in the state.
