San Diego Government Agencies
The Government of San Diego was turned to a mayor council form of government in 2006. Previously it was governed by a city manager system form of government. The mayor acts as the Chief Executive Officer of the city of San Diego. The city council members are elected from the single member districts of San Diego.
The city attorney and Mayor are elected directly by the people for a period of four years, which comes with a two term limit as other cities in United States. Even though the elections are held on a non-partisan basis, most office holders openly identify their support of either of the parties. The city of San Diego typically has more Democrats than Republicans.
