Baltimore Communities
Baltimore is defined into various geographical regions and these nine regions have also come to be known for their specific communities. The central district includes downtown Baltimore. The northern district, southern district, east Baltimore, northeastern district, eastern district, southeastern district, west district, northwestern district, western district and south western district are the other specific areas that have been identified. Baltimore is often called the 'city of neighborhoods'.
These communities tend to have their own specific characteristics. They are often identified based on the ethnic groups that live in the region, the kind of activities, the level of crime and other such aspects.
There are also various social communities that exist in the city. There is the Baltimore Community Foundation and various other retirement communities as well. Those interested in specific arts and hobbies also tend to form communities in the city and it is not uncommon to find groups that are conducting special events for charity and goodwill.
