New York Major Streets and Roadways

New York City is constructed with the ease of movement in mind. As a result, the city has been developed with a well planned and intricate network of roads going east to west and north to south, to form a grid. Most streets in the city travel one way and major highways are located on the outskirts of the city. Due to the layout of the streets, it is easy to navigate around New York City. Like every major city, New York has its own share of traffic during the peak commuting hours of the day.

Major highways including the Henry Hudson parkway are located on the outskirts of the city, in order to reduce traffic and make traveling more convenient without congesting the center of the city.

The New York street grid allows commuters to cross in from north and south using the various bridges and tunnels. Though it may seem congested, New York has one of the most well planned street layouts going from north to south.

Commuters from east and west are also able to commute in using the bridges. Traveling east to west is made worry free due to the one way streets and avenues that have been designed to limit traffic and minimize travel time.
