Riverside Weather and Climate

The climate in Riverside can be described as Mediterranean. It has hot summers that are dry and mild winters that are relatively wet. The temperatures in summer can go up to as high as 100 degree Fahrenheit but the humidity levels at this time are low, making the heat relatively easy to bear.

During the winter season the temperatures hardly ever rise above 55 degrees Fahrenheit, especially during the wet days. January is considered to the coldest month in the year in Riverside with temperatures falling to a low of 24 degrees Fahrenheit as well.

The precipitation levels in Riverside have been estimated to be around 10.22" annually. Most of this precipitation occurs in the winter season and spring time. The maximum rainfall can e experienced during December, January and February with some of it taking place in March and April. The summer months of June, July and August see no precipitation at all. Rain in September is also rare.

The trend changes during the El Nino years that take place once in 5 years approximately. During these years, the level of precipitation that the city receives increases significantly. There are also chances of mudslides in the city due to the powerful storms that the city experiences.

Unfortunately the level of pollution in the city has increased in the last few years and the Riverside area is part of what is called the 'smog belt'. This is also beginning to impact the climate and the temperature levels in the city. However, the good news is that the city has woken up to the dangers of having high levels of particle density in the air and is taking adequate measures to ensure that the pollution levels reduce.

The moderate levels of climate in Riverside makes it an ideal place to stay in or visit.
