With the many parks that the city has, there is a lot to do in terms of recreation in the city. The Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens have about 50 acres of themed gardens and the Monroe Park is a 7.5 acre landscaped park that has squirrels, pigeons and many wild birds. The other two major parks in the city include the Byrd Park and the Maymont Park. While the former has a running track, exercise stops and a dog park, the latter has various wildlife exhibits to see.
In addition to that, there are many trails and treks to take along the various pathways of James River. The Belle Isle and Brown's Island are great options for a day trip as is the Chimboraza City Park. The Forest Hill Park and Gillies Creek Park along with the James River Park Main are also extremely mesmerizing.
